Ten Hongkongers who were arrested by mainland authorities when trying to flee the city by boat have received prison sentences of between seven months and three years in Shenzhen.
In all, 12 Hongkongers pleaded guilty on Monday to illegally crossing into China’s waters. They were captured on August 23 as they sought to reach Taiwan by speedboat.
As 10 were sentenced on Tuesday by the Yantian People’s Procuratorate, two underaged suspects were returned to Hong Kong after pleading guilty. Local police will meet the media at noon.
