Holly Willoughby was absent from presenting This Morning today, she usually appears alongside Phillip Schofield Monday to Thursday. But, the fan-favourite presenter was replaced by Alison Hammond and it wasn’t long before those watching at home were told why Holly wasn’t working.
“Hello and welcome to your mid-week instalment of This Morning,” Alison began.
“Alison is standing in for Holly who is having a well-deserved day off,” Phillip explained.
Together, the presenters were tasked with turning on the Christmas tree lights on the humongous tree outside the Television Studio, before kicking off the rest of the show.
While many were pleased to see Alison brightening up their Wednesday morning, many viewers wondered what was really going on.
One referred back to a comment Holly made during yesteday’s show and tweeted: “As Holly said she’d be playing guess the gadget yesterday I’m guessing it’s not a planned day off. It’s no ones business really & they have a stand in, so why the F does everyone have to moan. Not happy with the situation the turn it off, you have a choice #ThisMorning.”
“I really hope holly is alright she seemed so excited about guess the gadget yesterday and now shes not on? #ThisMorning,” another chimed.
“Much prefer @AlisonHammond over Holly,” a fan tweeted.
It comes after rumours were swirling about Alison having a more permanent role on the show.

She is also called in to take over presenting in an emergency or when one of the main presenters is unwell.
During the school and summer holidays, Alison takes on Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes’ Friday slot, while they move to Phillip and Holly’s Monday-Thursday slot.
However, it has been suggested that Ruth and Eamonn will now only present during the school and summer holidays and Alison – alongside Dermot O’Leary – will complete Phillip and Holly’s term-time week.
A This Morning representative did explain: “We have a stellar presenting line up on This Morning in Holly and Phillip and Eamonn and Ruth.
